After working for Scully Oil for 37+ years, Marcy Krogh, manager for Lyndon Station BP, has retired. Marcy started working for Scully Oil in 1974 as a cashier at the old Shell Station in Lyndon Station. In 1980 she became the store manager. In 2003 a new station was built and the name was changed to Lyndon Station BP, where Marcy continued being the Store manager until now.

On Thursday, March 15, 2012 we all celebrated Marcy’s retirement by having a party for her at the station. Many people turned out for the event and we all had a great time! Now she can enjoy her free time with her husband Donny. We all wish Marcy the best of luck in her retirement.

On January 1st, 2012, one of our team members, Barb Bires from the Mauston Interstate BP, participated in the 15th annual Turtle Dunk. This event was sponsored by the Dirty Turtle in New Lisbon, WI. It is a family funded event. The Dirty Turtle also held a Silent Auction, a Live Auction and Bingo. The money that is raised at the Turtle Dunk and corresponding activities goes to the Juneau County Relay for Life chapter of the American Cancer Society for research.

All the jumpers do this to honor and pay tribute to family members and / or friends who have or had cancer. Barb had to jump into the water in 18 degree weather with wind gusts of 30-40 mph. Family and friends were there to support her through this jump. Scully Oil sponsored Barb, along with many other friends who all signed her t-shirt for support. Thanks Barb for having the courage to weather the cold for a worthy cause!

Scully Oil Company, a BP Branded Marketer servicing BP stations throughout Juneau, Sauk and Columbia Counties, presented a BP Fueling Communities grant donation of $3,250 to the Habitat for Humanity. The BP Fueling Communities program provides grants to local organizations that are nominated by BP’s Branded Marketers to support the communities in which they do business. Fueling Communities gives back to local organizations that support health, education, youth, food and housing to spread charity and goodwill.

Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit organization that began in 1976. Since 1976 they have served over 400,000 families. Families who qualify must put in 500 hours of sweat equity in helping to build their homes, their income must meet the necessary standards and they will receive no interest mortgages.

Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Mauston, WI started in 2002 and services the Adams & Juneau counties. The Habitat ReStore takes in donations of furniture, appliances, housewares, building supplies, electrical, plumbing and tools and it is all housed in 1200 sq. ft. of retail space. There are a few regular employees working at the ReStore, but 70% of their employees are volunteers. This allows for more money to go into the housing program. At this point the Habitat ReStore has served 13 families with homes and there will be 2-3 more families served this year.

The donation to Habitat for Humanity ReStore has helped them to improve the store itself by painting the outside of the building and furnishing new signs to give the Habitat ReStore a better presence.

”This wonderful BP grant allowed us to bring our Habitat ReStore building up to a much higher standard and allows us to have a positive impact on the image of the Mauston Community” Said Jim Abbs, ReStore Director.

If you are interested in learning more about this organization, please call Jim Abbs at 608.238.5214.

On Thursday, September 29, 2011, Scully Oil Company sponsored Sharing Supper at the Mauston High School in their commons. Many of the employee’s from the Scully Oil Office, Lyndon Station BP and Mauston Interstate BP volunteered their services. We were all scheduled to do something special. Some of us greeted guests, others prepared and served the food, some bussed tables, and we all shared in the cleanup.

The theme was “River of Memories”. There were a variety of programs for everyone young and old to partake in. Included were Applesauce Making, Kids Period Crafts, Re-enactors, Blood Pressure Screenings, and all sorts of Give Aways.

Sharing Supper’s mission is to provide an opportunity for sharing a community dining experience for all persons in the Mauston/Lyndon Station area and to build social relationships while it feeds the hungry and nourishes the soul. Sharing Supper’s coordinator, Margie Strouse, has done a wonderful job putting this program together and we are proud to say that Sharing Supper fed well over 320 people in that evening. And that doesn’t even include those who stopped just for dessert and coffee. I do believe it was a record!

Congratulations to everyone who participated in this wonderful cause.

On Monday, December 5, 2011, our Scully Oil team members volunteered their time for the 2nd year in a row to help make Christmas special for many of the children in this area.

There were 10 team members from Lyndon Station BP, Mauston Interstate BP, our home office and a couple of younger members, who enjoyed sharing time with other volunteers to help organize all the toys for families that need a little extra help. A couple of our team members helped bring all the toys from the Mauston Library to the Armory, so that all the packaging of the gifts could begin.

This year Toys for Joy was able to provide toys to 182 families and 379 children and every family was able to go home with a turkey.

A special thanks to everyone who did the shopping for all these wonderful toys and to the boys and girls basketball teams who helped with all the heavy lifting. When you think about all the people it takes to make this process work, it’s amazing! And we all knew what needed to be done, so it was a complete success.

We all enjoyed helping with this worthy cause and can’t wait to come back next year to help again!!
